DUV Granát granted a miniature of the statue of St. Wenceslas, which has been the dominant of the Václavské Square in Prague for nearly 100 years, to the Czech president, dissident and play writer Václav Havel
on the occasion of his jubilee. This statue of the patron of the Czech lands and namesake of president Havel was always the focal point of all high points of the Czech national identity and a witness of national tragedies. In the photographs documenting the crucial events of the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia, the silhouette of this memorial made by the Czech sculptor Myslbek dominates the crowds of hundred thousand people and the flood of Czech national flags.

In 1990, the Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) visited then Czechoslovakia experiencing euphoria after entering the society of civilized countries after the "Velvet Revolution”.

DUV Granát gave a cross decorated with Bohemian garnets to the Pope. When expressing their thanks, the Papal See considered highly the skills of Czech goldsmiths and stone-cutters.

Click_to_enlarge A child star of American movies in the thirties, Shirley Temple Black, that caused an earthquake among movie audience in 1934 by her role in the movie "Bright Eyes”, which enabled her to make eight more movies, became the US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia in 1991. Besides other events, her participation in the celebrations of liberation of one of the biggest Czech cities, Plzen, cannot be forgotten.

There she paid tribute not only to the American heroes but also to the Czech Pilsner Urquell. DUV Granát prepared a beautiful brooch in the shape of the US flag for this beloved American ex-Ambassador. She was supposed to come to visit our firm on 16th January 1991. However, she did not come. On this day, the Gulf War began.

Charles IV (Holy Roman Empire) (1316-1378), king of Bohemia and of the Germans, Holy Roman emperor (1347-1378). His reign was marked by his issuance of the Golden Bull, a document establishing the method of imperial election. Loving husband and Emperor of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, Franz Joseph II, gave this beautiful cross decorated with garnets to his bellowed Sissi.


Empress Elisabeth turned to this cross in the times of bitterness when she felt to be a prisoner of the rigid court etiquette, cultivated and maintained by the Emperor's mother. The jewel was close to her in the moments of both sorrow and happiness in her marriage and maternity.
